“PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR VETERANS DAY PATRIOTIC PARADE
Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri and Michael Buckley, Executive Director of the Good News Foundation have announced the return of the Veterans Day Parade in Utica on Saturday, November 7th at 11am. The return coincides with the Flags for Heroes and Families display to be located on the Memorial Parkway.
The parade will begin in front of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and continue north along Genesee St., turning right onto the Memorial Parkway and ending at the Parkway Recreation Center.
We invite the community to participate in the Veterans Day parade, said Buckley. “Our veterans experience unique challenges when they return to civilian life. We support them as they strive to maintain strong family relationships upon their return.”
“We are looking for community groups, veterans’ organizations, Boys and Girls Scouts and we would especially like to have representatives from area Law Enforcement and Fire Fighting agencies,” Buckley added.
To register for the parade and patriotic march, visit www.TheGoodNewsCenter.org or call 315.735.6210.
Immediately following the parade, the Flags for Heroes and Family initiative will conduct a short ceremony honoring our veterans, active duty and their families. More than 1000 flags will be posted on the Memorial Parkway and will remain on display until November 12.
The public is invited to sponsor a flag in honor or memory of a loved one. As a part of the parade, the public is asked to bring a nonperishable food item that will be distributed to local veteran food pantries.
Mayor Palmieri said, “I am pleased that the City of Utica will once again honor those who have served our country. It is a way for us to show our appreciation for their sacrifices and we are proud to be a major sponsor of this event.”
All proceeds from this project will benefit military personnel and their families through programs offered at the Good News Center.
