MAYOR PALMIERI ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF CITY’S NEW WEBSITE

Upgrading of Website Marks Major Goal for City Officials

Mayor Robert Palmieri, along with Comptroller Bill Morehouse and Members of the Common Council, today announced the official launch of the City’s new and upgraded website.

Understanding that the City’s old website was antiquated and not user friendly, the Mayor, the Comptroller and Common Council, cited the upgrading of the City’s website as a major goal and priority.

The new website was crafted with a focus of being easy to navigate and user friendly. It includes a comprehensive events calendar that displays City meetings and makes public information easily accessible. The website can also be translated into approximately 90 languages making it more inclusive to Utica’s growing refugee population.

Before the launch, the City’s IT Department had the new website tested by Google and it was deemed mobile friendly.

Mayor Palmieri stated, “This is just another example of how Utica is moving in the right direction. With the advent of Nano Utica and the high tech industry coming to our region, having a modernized website is essential. I commend IT Director Frank Mutolo for his great work on this important project.”

The website also allows for property owners to view their tax bill and soon they will be able to pay their taxes on-line, a major goal of Comptroller Morehouse’s office.

Comptroller Morehouse stated, “Upgrading our website is all about customer service and making life easier for the residents. By working closely with the Mayor and IT Department we were able to accomplish an important and mutually shared goal.”

Common Council President Frank Meola stated, “The updating of our website was a priority for the Council and this announcement is an important step for the City moving forward. I thank the Mayor, the Technology Committee and the IT Department for their great work. ”

Technology Committee Chairman Joe Marino stated, “For the past three years it has been a priority of mine to help move Utica’s City web presence into the 21st century. This new website, along with the new Government Access Channel 98 represents a new era of transparency and communication between government and taxpayers. Citizens of Utica should have their City government be a simple click away. I applaud Mayor Palmieri for his efforts and recognizing the importance of this technology.”
