Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol and Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri today announced that the 3rd annual Cops vs. Local Celebrities Charity Basketball Game will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 6:00 pm at Proctor High School in Utica.
The game will peg twelve of the area’s various law enforcement members against the area’s local leaders, business owners, and media personalities.
This year’s recipient of the funds raised will be Joseph’s Experience - whose mission is to help children and families struck by severe illness.
In addition to the Cops vs. Celebrities game, the event will also feature a High School All-Star game that will showcase some of Oneida County’s best high school basketball players.
The half time events include a 3-point shooting contest between Oneida County’s top 3-point high school scorers and some of the top law enforcement 3-point scorers. There will also be the “Battle of the Robs” as Sheriff Maciol will face off against Mayor Palmieri in a free throw contest.
Sheriff Maciol said, “I am honored to be a part of the 3rd annual Cops vs. Local Celebrities basketball game to raise funds for sick children and their families. It is great to have this year’s game played in the City of Utica along with having a high school all-star game highlighting some of the best teenage athletes and role models throughout Oneida County.”
Mayor Palmieri stated, “I thank Sheriff Maciol for bringing this great event to the City of Utica. I am honored to participate and help support Joseph’s experience. We also thank Superintendent Karam and School Board President Chris Salatino for accommodating and hosting this event.”
The Cops team will consist of players from the Utica Police Department, Rome Police Department, Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, New Hartford Police Department, Yorkville Police Department, Hamilton College Public Safety Department, and the Oneida County Probation Department.
The Celebrity team will consist of members of the local media from WKTV, WIBX, WUTQ, the Mayors of Utica & Rome, Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, some local high school & college coaches, and local business owners.
The cost to see the game is $3 (free for children under 5) and all tickets will be sold at the door. Food and drinks will be available to purchase during the event.
