MAYOR PALMIERI ANNOUNCES FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECTS THROUGHOUT UTICA

Mayor Robert Palmieri today announced ongoing major flood mitigation projects throughout Utica.

After major flooding occurred in October of 2019, Mayor Palmieri directed the city’s Engineering Department to craft a flood mitigation plan which focused on target areas throughout the city.

The Administration invested resources, including city personnel and approximately $250,000 in funding, to executive the plan and improve the city’s flood mitigation infrastructure.  A full list of all the flood mitigation work and projects can be found in the accompanying City of Utica Engineering Report.

In addition to the work listed in the Engineering Report, several projects in the city’s mitigation plan will commence in the near future.  These projects include work on Mapledale Avenue, Elmdale Avenue, Brookside Avenue, Albany Street and Bleecker Street.

Mayor Palmieri stated, “My Administration recognizes the devastating impact flooding has on our residents and we have made flood mitigation a top priority.  I am pleased to announce significant progress in the city’s flood mitigation effort, and I commend our Engineering Department for successfully implementing these necessary projects.”

Mayor Palmieri continued, “While there is no combatting Mother Nature in the event of a powerful storm, we have an obligation to do everything in our power, including investing resources to address this problem.”
