Palmieri’s Appointment Recommended by New York State Conference of Mayors
Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri was appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to the Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Council on July 18th.
The Mayor’s appointment was recommended to the Governor by the New York State Conference of Mayor’s (NYCOM). The Mayor’s term runs until May 1st, 2018.
The Accreditation Council works in conjunction with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and consists of 17 members appointed by the Governor.
The Council meets quarterly and adopts standards, sets policy and has exclusive authority to grant accreditation to law enforcement agencies throughout New York State. The Council also provides guidance for the overall direction of the program.
In 2015 the Utica Police Department earned its accreditation from the Council, a major goal and priority for Mayor Palmieri’s administration (only 22% of Police Departments in the State are accredited).
Mayor Palmieri stated, “I am honored to be appointed to the Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Council, and I thank Governor Cuomo and NYCOM Executive Director Peter Baynes for the opportunity to serve in this capacity.”
NYCOM Executive Director Peter Baynes stated, “"Mayor Palmieri’s commitment and accomplishments as Mayor of the City of Utica make him the perfect candidate for this important position. Given that Utica’s police department recently received re-accreditation; Mayor Palmieri has first-hand experience and knowledge of the accreditation process that will go a long way toward strengthening the overall program. I am confident that he will be a tremendous asset to this Council."
