MAYOR PALMIERI ANNOUNCES FREE TREE WOOD AVAILABLE FOR RESIDENTS

Mayor Robert Palmieri today announced residents can pick up free tree wood (tree butts) which is located at the intersection of Welsh Bush Road and South Park Drive (near T.R. Proctor Park).

The city’s Park Department takes down trees on a regular basis and many of the tree butts are too large for the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority to accept.  Once cut, the tree butts can be utilized for firewood.

Anyone interested in the tree butts must obtain a permit from the Parks Department by contacting Becki Duval at 315-738-1341 or via e-mail at rduval@cityofutica.com.

Once a permit is obtained, the tree butts are available on a first come, first serve basis.  Per New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) guidelines, firewood cannot be transferred for more than 50 miles from the location of where it is cut.
