Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente & Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri Issue Joint Statement

County and City Officials have been monitoring the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and are in daily contact with federal and state agencies to ensure we are aware of any developments regarding this situation.

This is a serious matter that requires collaboration across all levels of government and the public. The information we are learning is consistently evolving due to the nature of the virus.

Based on the most updated information, and after consulting with public safety professionals, the City of Utica is postponing the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which was scheduled for this Saturday (3/14), until further notice.

Individuals, especially the elderly population, can take the following actions to help keep themselves and their families as safe as possible;

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick

  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

  • Consider avoiding gatherings of large numbers of people

The County and City will provide more updates and information as it is learned.
