MAYOR PALMIERI ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF ZAGSTER BIKE SHARING IN CITY OF UTICA

Mayor Robert Palmieri and Zagster, Inc. today announced the official launch of a new bike-share program that will provide residents and visitors with a convenient, affordable and healthy way to travel throughout the City.

Starting today, 25 cruiser bikes and 1 tandem tricycle will be available at 5 stations for members to use. Riders join the program by signing up for an annual membership, student membership or hourly plan. Rides for members — who must be 18 or older — are $20 for an annual membership, $10 for a student membership (with a valid email domain from one of the following institutions: Utica College, Mohawk Valley Community College, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, St. Elizabeth College of Nursing, PrattMWP or Hamilton College) and $2/hour for non-members.

“It is exciting to announce the City of Utica is launching its first ever bike share program with Zagster,” Mayor Palmieri stated. “Providing our residents with all the quality of life amenities you would find in larger cities is a top priority as it attracts everyone from young professionals to empty-nesters alike.”

Utica’s bike share features the Zagster 8, an award-winning bike known for its practical design, comfortable ride and easy handling. The bike includes a spacious basket that’s perfect for carrying groceries, takeout, or personal belongings. And because rider safety is a priority, every bike includes automatic lights, a bell, and full reflectors.

Utica’s program conveniently unlocks vast options for commuting, recreation, exercise and fun.  Bikes can be found via the free Zagster Mobile App — available for iPhone and Android — or online at zagster.com/uticany. Each bike has a unique number which riders enter into the app to disengage the ring lock and docking cable at the touch of a button.

The five stations for Utica’s bike share are as follows:

Downtown Utica Station (corner of Columbia Street and Genesee Street)

Culver Avenue Station (at Buckley Pool)

Addison Miller Station (at Addison Miller Park)

Erie Canal Station (at Aqua Vino Restaurant)

Parkway Station (at Parkway Recreation Center)

About Zagster

Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., Zagster is the largest and fastest-growing bike-share provider in the United States. Zagster operates more than 160 bike share programs in 35 states across North America and specializes in making bike sharing available in areas where traditional bike share providers can't reach. Unlike other programs in which riders must drop off bikes at designated stations for every stop, Zagster’s programs give users the freedom to ride as long as they want, wherever they want. And because Zagster manages all aspects of its programs — from bikes and technology, to maintenance and marketing — Zagster partners can create and deploy scalable bike-share systems that best suit their needs and work within their budgets.
