Mayor keeping kids safe on Halloween

October 27, 2009- (Utica, NY) It's no trick!

The City of Utica is hoping this Halloween will be all about the treats, and less about wondering whose bell you're about to ring.

Through the efforts of Mayor Roefaro, the Utica Police Department, and Chief Daniel LaBella, level three sex offenders within the city's limits will be asked to place a sign detailing, ‘no candy’, on their front doors.

"The card stock signs will be delivered to level three sex offenders within the coming days," said Utica Police Chief Daniel LaBella. The signs depict a large pumpkin, with black font stating, "No candy at this residence" over the face of the pumpkin.

"We're taking the proactive steps to keep city kids safe this Halloween,” said Mayor Roefaro.  “Chief LaBella and I initiated this effort last year, and it worked very well, so well, that we’re doing it again.”

Chief LaBella added, “An informed community is a protected community and that’s what this city initiative will ensure.”
