St. Patrick's Day Parade
Our parade became nationally known about 10 years ago when Dolly Parton was in town. That day, Mother Nature was nice enough to give us about 30 inches of snow during the parade. Ms. Parton was on the 'David Letterman Show' later that week and mentioned that she watched a parade in Utica, New York during a blizzard. This year will mark the first time the Great American Irish Festival (GAIF) will serve as organizer and presenter of the Utica St. Patrick's Day parade, scheduled for Saturday, March 15th at 10:00am. The parade will begin at Oneida Square and head North on Genesee St. to Columbia St. with the Reviewing Stand in front of the Stanley Theater. Last year's parade, the third largest in New York State, featured over 120 entries and Parade Committee Chairman Charley Thomas – a former Parade Grand Marshall himself – expects this year's event to be even bigger and better. A new parade mascot has been created by local artist Frank Page, of Rome, and a naming campaign is underway. Visit www.gaif.us , click on the Leprechaun and hit "Name the Mascot Contest" under the Parade Links. For more information on the parade visit http://www.gaif.us/ or http://www.uticaparade.us/ or contact Charley Thomas at (315) 796-9916 Follow the links below for more information.
