Parks and Plazas Series Schedule

ART PARK @ Franklin Square (Genesee) - 5:30 to 7:30pm
The park comes alive with working artists, poets, visits from the Kids Against Pollution, Thi Chi demonstrations, the Utica Zoomobile, artisans from "Motif" selling their wares, Tarot Readings, Poets and Dancers, Planet Utica's remote studio, resonance center street theater and drum circles, an occasional busker AND "open studio nites" with professional instructors.  All forms of artists WELCOME!

HISTORY PARK @ Bagg's Square - 6:30pm to 7:30pm
We are proud to have the National Park Service Junior Ranger Program here to present our history to children of all ages, especially those 6-14 years.

6/02  Tunes pf Stanwix - Join in with the fife and drummers of Fort Stanwix National Monument.  Learn how to play the most popular tunes of the 1770s.
6/09  Life on the Erie Canal - Join the Erie Canal Village staff from Rome, NY as we take a glimpse at what life was like along America's most famous canal.
6/16  Flag of the United States - join us as we look back at how the United States flag has evolved over the past 2 centuries.
6/23  A Soldier's Day (1777) - Enlist as a soldier of the 3rd NY Regiment and experience what garrison duty was like at Fort Stanwix first hand.
6/30  Make an 18th Century Quilt - Quilts were often used as a communications tool in the 18th century.  Find out what some quilt designs meant and make your own out of paper!
7/07  They Ate What?  Foods of the 18th Century - Take a look at what you would have had to eat while garrisoned at Fort Stanwix during the American Revolution.
7/14  How to research your family history - This session will give you some pointers on how to find and write about our own history.
7/21  Strike up the Fife and Drum - Join the Fort Stanwix Park Rangers as we explore how important music was in the life of a soldier.
7/28  Build Your Own Fort - Why does Fort Stanwix look that way?  Join us and find out why and then build your own fort.
8/04  Toys of the 18th Century - Join local historian Alan Sterling as we look back at what toys entertained kids over 200 years ago.
8/11  Tales of the Iroquois - Hear the amazing history of the Iroquois and participate with some dancers of the Oneida Indian Nation.
8/18  Stories of The Underground Railroad - What exactly was The Underground Railroad?  Join the Oneida County Historical Society and find out.
8/25  Happy Birthday National Park Service - The National Park service is 87 years old today.  Come celebrate with us and learn about the many national parks across the country.
