VACANCIES: There is currently one (1) vacancy for this position in the Comptroller’s Office. The eligible list resulting from this examination will be used to fill this vacancy and any other vacancies as they occur in all agencies and special districts under the jurisdiction of the Utica Municipal Civil Service Commission. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from High School. DUTIES: The work involves responsibility for maintaining a system of fixed asset inventory and monitoring procedures for assets by cost, location, nomenclature, serial number, and description. Information gathered is processed into a computerized inventory control system. Physical inventories are taken to verify information submitted. Annual reports are developed with the verified information. The work is performed under general supervision of the Comptroller in accordance with established policies and objectives permitting some leeway in the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Does related work as required. SUBJECTS OF EXAMINATION: 1. Arithmetic Computation With Calculator These questions test for the ability to use a calculator to do basic computations. Questions will involve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You may also be asked to calculate averages and percents, and to round an answer to the nearest whole number or to one or more decimal places. YOU SHOULD BRING WITH YOU A HAND-HELD BETTERY-OR SOLAR-POWERED CALCULATOR FOR USE ON THIS TEST. 2. Office Record Keeping These questions test your ability to perform common office record keeping tasks. The test consists of two or more “sets” of questions, each set concerning a different problem. Typical record keeping problems might involve the organization or collation of data from several sources; scheduling; maintaining a record system using running balances; or completion of a table summarizing data using totals, subtotals, averages and percents. 3. Supplies and Services Control These questions cover issues common to purchasing and storeskeeping titles at a journey level. These questions will test candidates’ ability to check supplies and services records for accuracy and completeness as well as their ability to extract specific information from these records including identification, usage and needs based on the information that is provided in these records. In addition these questions will test candidates’ ability to exercise judgment in making decisions that respond to the identification, usage or needs that would be considered acceptable and correct under generally accepted practices. 4. Understanding and Interpreting Written Material These questions test how well you comprehend written material. You will be provided with brief reading selections and will be asked questions about the selections. All the information required to answer the questions will be presented in the selections; you will not be required to have any special knowledge relating to the subject areas of the selections. IMPORTANT: READ GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. THE USE OF A CALCULATOR IS RECOMMENDED FOR THIS EXAM. Calculators are permitted: Unless specifically prohibited, candidates are permitted to use QUIET, hand-held, solar or battery powered calculators. Devices with typewriter keyboards, such as computers, spell checkers, personal digital assistants, address books, language translators, dictionaries and any similar devises are PROHIBITED.
