HOUSING SECURITY OFFICER
EXAM NUMBER 68-583 LAST DATE FOR FILING EXAM DATE STARTING SALARY/RANGE: $11.82 per hour VACANCIES: There is currently one (1) vacancy at the Municipal Housing Authority. The eligible list resulting from this examination will also be used to fill this vacancy and any other vacancies as they occur in all agencies and special districts under the jurisdiction of the Utica Municipal Civil Service Commission. RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT: Candidates must be legal residents of the City of MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; OR (B) One year of experience as a security guard, watch-person or law enforcement position.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (A) Possession of a valid throughout employment. (B) Must complete certified New York State Security Guard training within six months of employment and must be maintained throughout employment. DUTIES: This position involves responsibility to provide security services and preserve the peace and good order in the Municipal Housing Authority community in the City of SUBJECTS OF EXAMINATION: 1. Applying Written Information In a Safety and Security Setting These questions evaluate your ability to read, interpret and apply rules, regulations, directives, written narratives and other related material. You will be required to read a set of information and to appropriately apply the information to situations similar to those typically experienced in a public safety and security service setting. All information needed to answer the questions is contained in the rules, regulations, etc. which are cited.
2. Following Directions (maps) These questions test your ability to follow physical/geographic directions using street maps or building maps. You will have to read and understand a set of directions and then use them on a simple map. 3. Understanding and Interpreting Written Material These questions test how well you comprehend written material. You will be provided with brief reading selections and will be asked questions about the selections. All the information required to answer the questions will be presented in the selections; you will not be required to have any special knowledge relating to the subject areas of the selections.
